Shopping Icon Notification Light

I'm not trying to tread on Lenny_Ogg's turf, but this question is a little different. I'm not just asking you how you feel about the Shopping Icon Notification Light, I'm asking you why. Some people just say it's annoying, others are saying it causes problems for people with visual sensitivity. Now, I have ADHD-related light sensitivity problems. I've been known to start crying because a cloudy day turned sunny, but the small glowy yellow circle in the corner of the shopping icon didn't cause any sensory issues for me. It's possible that someone with a completely different type/cause of visual sensitivity would have a problem, even if I don't. I still find this surprising because it's identical to the notification light on the calendar icon, which has been in the game for years.

Now, I do find the light annoying, but it's for a different reason. It's kind of like when the phone call icon on my phone shows that I missed a call. I go to check it, and it turns out to be spam call, so I become annoyed because I wasted time checking for a spam call. The notification light on the shopping icon makes me feel like I'm being spammed.

So why do you dislike the notification light? Note: I also have options for people who don't care, or who aren't sure.

Edit: Option 2 ought to be "avoiding the game or updates" instead of just "avoiding the game."

  • I have ADHD, having a blinking light on the screen is way too much sensory input for me. I played the game for less than 5 minutes the other day, because I got sick of my eyes constantly darting up to the top of the screen. Having said that I also played last night for several hours and the light wasn't there at all. I don't mind the shopping cart icon, just stop making the light blink or glow, remove the light all together.
  • Simply put:

    I don't feel spammed... I feel insulted.

I didn't pay $1200 for a video game to now (10 years later) start getting bombarded with predatory advertising tactics like a $10 F2P mobile game. I want the invasive grift-y button gone from inside of my gameplay's UI.... flashing or not flashing. Either move it to the launch page main menu or allow us to toggle it off in the game options.

    Period.
  • This is my play space, not my shopping space.
They already get to sell to me every time I load up the game. It's the main screen.

I don't need to be reminded of it constantly by putting it in my play mode.
If this is the way they want to do business from now on, then I refuse to do business with them.
    It's as simple as that.
  • I got migraines the other day when I was playing my game, so I stepped away from it. I have some sensory problems, and the cart button did some weird things (when I started the game for the first time after the patch, it did nothing, but one day later it did), so my headache might be caused by that thing.
But I won't be strictly negating that also other circumstances might have caused me feeling bad, I just can't recall another reason.

I don't have any sensory issues, but I do not want the shopping cart icon and definitely don't need it pulsating. We are already spammed when the EA App opens, when the game loads to the main screen there's more "suggestions" of purchases, and now they put it directly into the game... How much more money does EA feel we need to spend on a broken game?
  • I don't like being spammed but do feel added concern for those who have sensory problems with it. That does also includes people feeling emotionally uncomfortable with a shopping cart there.

I do think vulnerable people need protecting, and many vulnerable people use this game as an outlet. I'd like to see that promoted instead, be an inviting safe space.
For people who maybe are not good with handling money, such a cart might be an unwelcome temptation. And I do feel it might prey on the vulnerable considering that we already pass advertisements for the other stuff TWICE before getting in game, we already see what all the discounts are.
  • So I may or may not have the cart in my game but no clue since I immediately updated Better BuildBuy mod. I get migraines and motion sickness from games all the time. However, the placement of the light doesn't seem like it would be an issue for me. It's still very annoying that it's there and we can't toggle it off. I don't think this "shopping assistance" is necessary at all.
  • I understand that you will get spammed if you download things for free. People have to make a living, after all. But with Sims 4, I have a lot of DLC (nearly all of the big packs and some of the stuff and kit packs) which means that I paid a lot of money, for, among other things, the right to not be spammed.
This has crossed a line for me. If they do not remove this button, I am not going to buy anything more Sims 4 stuf. Ever.
