I don’t think you notice many mermaids when playing non-mermaid sims. I’m not a big fan of occults either and don’t find they intrude at all in my game when I have played non-mermaids also ones I have made have shown up in other worlds and they behave and look like non-mermaid sims. However I have played a mermaid household I made just to see what they were like and really liked playing them. They are the first occult form I have in sims 4 as I don’t have vampires or get to work. I think it’s the best of both worlds where you can play them if you are an occult fan but they have no impact on your game if you are not and don’t play them. I hope this helps
