Should I Edit My Sims' Children? RESOLVED!

I'm very unhappy with how my Erik Cantrell game save is turning out. I didn't intervene with the birth of his children, inasmuch as the first child was a boy. I did try to make certain the second child would be the twin girls, I got unexpectedly in an earlier save — the point I'm trying to get back to — the twins ended up as triplets, to my chagrin. I failed to check the gender for the next two pregnancies. I did get a boy as the 'fifth' child, but the sixth child was another girl. Now it was sweet that the parents named her for her recently deceased maternal grandmother, but still. I'm really very unhappy with it. It occurs to me I could take them all into cas.fulleditmode and change out the name of the last girl and change the gender of the third 'twin'. Or I could roll back the save to when the couple has their very first child and try again? What are your thoughts?

If you change the gender in CAS, make sure you edit the voice also and it would be a good idea to age them up in CAS and edit their features if they were going to grow up with a particularly masculine or feminine facial structure. Then age them back down. Some of that stuff is set when they are toddlers and doesn't change just because you switch the gender tag.

Thank you for that. I have a hunch that I will delete the fourth daughter and replace her with a bio son from the parents to avoid any such problems. But, I'm glad to have the information you gave, just in case I change my mind, when it all comes down to the moment.

Go ahead with the flashback story and see what comes of that. If you don't get what you're looking for, then go into CAS and make the changes you need. I wouldn't roll back and lose all that Erik has accomplished and have to redo it all. CAS is your friend, your assistant, and your fixer-upperer.

Thanks, the thought of a do-over, I think is what's making me hesitate. I suppose changing them in CAS would be the way to go. As I stated in a post, I will scrupulously write down the kids skill levels of whom I will change, and perhaps keep the level of the one I totally replace. I still have to decide what to do about the baby that's nearly here. I could return the number on the lot to default, that way once the baby is born, I can take the family into CAS and baby will likely be gone. I accidentally did this one other time. No one in the family was distressed at all over the disappearance of the 'extra' Sim. My poor Sims have just gone through so much, lately.

After all they've been through an extra sim suddenly disappearing probably won't rattle them very much!

I do it all the time really... If I'm playing a long-lived sim, I'll make it a point to edit the last name to be a partial reminder of what family the genetics came from, or perhaps to adjust some likes or dislikes. Do as you feel you should do, we can only advise you in the end.
  • UPDATE: Yesterday, I made a copy of my Erik REDUX save and then utilized MCCC to return the lot to 8 Sims. Kayleigh was still preggars, which surprised me. So, I decided to take them into cas.fulldeditmode, with the notion I would age Cadence down to Toddler, remove Carina and have the parents generate a new Toddler boy. I removed Carina and discovered I couldn't do anything else! Kayleigh was still pregnant! So, since I already knew she was having another boy, (I peeked, via MCCC, this time), I chose not to change the triplets to twins. I just posted the story in the WHIYGT? thread, page 986, if you're curious to see how I wrote myself out of this pickle. LOL

Many thanks to all of your suggestions. I shall peek from now on, instead of just letting myself be surprised. LOL Especially when the surprise turns into a nightmare. I am now safely down off of the wall!

It's not cheating if it makes the game better!
