There was really no reason for TS3 worlds to be closed off, they didn't have anything that made them particular and you wouldn't want to spread to the other worlds. Large worlds were hard on computers, small worlds were just small and limited especially when you had large lots occupied by useless rabbit holes. I prefer the TS4 worlds, a lot smaller, and if you fancy a change of scenery or a different scenario for a while, it's just a phone call away. I don't mind other sims travelling as well, and some do seem to travel more than others. When they pop up in other worlds it's like seeing old friends.
