I really don't need more packs, EPs or SPs. This game has been a mess since the beginning due to the change from an online game to an offline one in a rush.
This game is boring, not very well designed, childish, lacking humour and sarcasm. This is the fourth iteration of the game and should be much better. Instead we get a 2.5 iteration. They should already know what people want and what we don't. It's been quite a numer of years with The Sims for them to know.
I'm still playing S3 waiting for The Sims 5.
Sorry, it is my humble opinion.
Sadly the thing is they are trying to do what the Community want but really nothing happens. The Biggest Example is Pets. People want them to be Playable so they added that feature in The Sims 3 Pets. But then fans complained because they put the resources on making the pets controllable rather than fleshing them out as "pets for your sims". So when they did it in The Sims 4, they listen on what people want and here we are still getting complaints... They just can't win the community.
I know it is impossible to make everyone happy. The Sims community is so big that there are a lot of peple with different opinions. But they tried to make an online game when EVERYBODY has been stating (or at least that's what I've always read in posts) that The Sims should never be an online game. That decision created a core game that cannot be changed now and we are carrying the consecuences.
The things I like about The Sims is customization. That's what makes the game so appealing to me. You create your own stories, you can create houses, change the world, change patterns, change terrain, control generations, control de story... resuming it all: customize everything to your liking to create something unique. Customization is great because my game is completely different to others. We all play differently, we can create whatever we want and play as we like. It should be a sandbox.
I'm still creating worlds in TS3 with different families, watching them progressing into different branches, watching the world ALIVE. If you play the game from start twice, everything can change differently, generating a completely different situation. With some mods the game can be played with little lag and bugs.
TS4 does not allow most of these things anymore. Customization is impossible. I don't want to have 20 small static worlds, I want to create mine or at least have the opportunity to change the ones given to my preference.
TS4 has some improvements: build/buy mode is awesome, vamps are better, graphics are great, it runs smoother, ... but it's sooooo boooooooring.... I think they took away what makes the game what it is: customization.
If I would be totally honest, I feel sorry for the developers at this part. Its the upper ups at EA. The Sims 3 begun production after the release of The Sims 2: Open for Business. EA already know that it will be a massive success, and if I remember correctly, The Sims 4 was already in development before The Sims 3 even launched. The game has long development base game time that could easily gave us the best sims game yet but EA is EA.
Remember when EA announced that they would focus on online gaming gaming rather than single player games because "it will be the future"(but really they just knew they can monetize it better), yeah that also affects MAXIS, in which develops for the Single player Genre. It is also why SIMCITY5 turned out to be bad. I remember hearing a developer saying that they are proud of the simcity game that they had build, before EA decides to run it into the ground by forcing it to have multiplayer aspects, and since EA knew that simcity will sell like hotcakes, they add the online only DRM to maximize there profits.
The same thing had happened also to The Sims. Since EA thinks multiplayer is great, they command the developers to do it. And if you look at the alpha version of Olympus it is very clear that they are having a very hard time on adding the multiplayer aspect at a game that is meant to be played at Single Player. When the SIMCITY fail, MAXIS had to suffer. Instead of EA delay the game even for two years, they put strict deadlines to the devolepers. The devs then meanwhile had only a year to redo the game, and in order to save time, they had to reuse that same engine...
For me, No developers wanted to see the game to be burned into the ground, especially a franchise that most have worked since the beginning. I can see the developers trying to push really hard into creating the games content before the launch just to satisfy us, and to save themselves from being shutdown by EA. Sadly, as far as I know before Maxis Emeryville shuts down on early 2015, they already had plans for the next game in the simcity, but since EA thinks that single player games won't make them money, instead of investing at that game, they shut it down and turned the whole franchise into a mobile game. The Sims Studio is the only part of Maxis that remain alive. I just wish that EA will greenlight the game and this time, they will not interfere the games development and let the developers do what they want into the game like on what they did on The Sims 1,2, and 3. How ever my only fear is that seing EA wanted to put microtransactions for their "engaging their players with games", then it would be a disaster unless they expand The Sims Studio for bigger teams for Expansion Packs.
Agree with the rest of what you said. While I don't like to use CAST as much as possible(because of lag) the thing that I really miss is the ability to create worlds. For me The Sims is a place where you can create your own worlds for your own stories. I just hope that once they finished those time consuming packs like seasons, they can focus on this content more deeper. I miss the motto on The Sims 3. Customize Everything
