I don't think it's EA against the gay community or anything sinister. I think it's just poor programming. I've never been bothered by autonomous flirting in the game because I don't need to control what's going to happen and prefer to let the game take me where it will. There was one Sim I had in TS3 who had a live in boyfriend who he had chosen on his own but yet had ongoing affairs with several women in town. The guy was a real dog and had to flirt with everyone. It made for some real drama.
I played Holmes and Watson in the TS2, too. And one time before I knew 'food fight' at the table was actually a romantic nudge, Holmes was having dinner with a good friend (male) and I had them do that. The other guy fell in love with Holmes right then complete with love icon (not crush) on the Sim panel. That didn't bother me because I decided (though Holmes doesn't have anybody in any of my games) Holmes didn't mind a male was in love with him and entertained the idea. It sort of fit if he was gay or straight which I always left unexplored. Because that is who he is to me. I don't care Sims flirt but if I have set it to be one or the other that bothers me or if I haven't set it 'yet' I want them refuse everyone until I make up my mind or in case I prefer no one like for Holmes. But the problem with TS4 is any will flirt if the other is in a flirty mood. Even if they are devoted they would flirt. It even spills over to kids in the game. As others have said in the incest complaints. I just think they could fine tune it more to where it matters to the Sim if the player had already picked a choice for them.
