Totally a bad system of whatever story progression it is.
Did the TS3 SP work that way, too? Because I started keeping it off after awhile because it moved out my played Sims. And it wasn't working right like making the neighbors' kids get out and get a job and start their own family. I finally gave up on that and just kept it off the last three years I played it.
Sims can have unexpected sweethearts yes. Sims 3 clearly wasn't designed to play rotational. If you want that though you should check out NRaas SP because as I understand it you can set things with that.
Someone confused me the other day btw by telling me sims in 2 were flirting with each other as well when they were beyond your control? I always thought everything in that game freezed completely when you left a family.
No, the TS2 Sims also have their own interests if you see them out on the community lots. They are frozen so to speak if they aren't on community lots. But if they show up on one then yes, they can get crushes, and be attracted to other Sims. They will also flirt, kiss, and cuddle and the whole nine yards with other Sims while not in your control just short of woohoo.
However, the only difference I see here in the TS4 is the relationship bar for the two differences. Sims in the TS2 don't have a 'romantic' relationship bar. So, though they may have wants to go back to that Sim they were with on the community lot you won't see a pink bar. You see a daily bar and a long term relationship bar. Which is more important to those Sims than the silly romantic bar in the TS4.
The false romantic bar in the TS4 is exactly that. Because sometimes you find those Sims haven't even met, and won't do any romantic interactions (relationship not high enough) with the Sim in their pink relationship bar. And sometimes they will. It's a hit or miss. But most of the time you can just ignore it.
However, if the TS2 Sim got out on a community lot and fell in love with another Sim while you were not controlling them, then they have a memory of that, and may have more wants concerning that Sim.
So, I'm not exactly understanding why those who played the TS2 are so 'upset' by a fake romantic bar in the TS4 when their Sims on rotation actually did kiss and flirt and other things out on community lots.
Sounds like they have 'forgotten' how rotation worked in that game.
