If you really want to get into gender game play, you can always use the cas.fulleditmode cheat. I changed a boy Sim into a girl. What was fascinating was that the genetics remained. He looked like the boy version of his formal self - eyes, hair color, etc. It was weird and wonderful. I kept all the traits the same and changed his first name.
