EA said there would be no Sims 5 if Sims 4 wasn't successful. Personally I think Sims 4 is pretty damn successful, but remember this is EA, the Master of Expansion, the Queen of DLC, the Roxors of the Lootboxors, whose favourite thing to tell us is that they're barely breaking even even as they stuff their pillows with $100 bills.
Such a statement doesn't mean there will be no Sims 5 ever. It means that they won't make Sims 5 until they know they can make more money from it than Sims 4. And what's making Sims 4 the big money now? Game Packs and Stuff Packs - which have recently risen in price for many countries. Such Packs are easy. They're cheap. They're popular. The programming's all there.
And by EA's standards, this doesn't mean they needed to make them more expensive to make money (though that's what they'll say), but that they're going to make many, many, MANY more packs. Even if they shelve the franchise, they won't stop making packs.
