It sounds like the articles that the OP read are purely speculative. Sure, they could turn out to be right or they could be wrong but right now, they aren't based on anything that has been confirmed.
Sure, all things eventually come to an end in this world. We can't switch our aging off like Sims can. At some point, TS4 will end. It could be next year or in 2020 or some other time stretching after.
I know that I would be more understanding of it if the change happens with a shift in technology. I'm also not going to commit to buying a product that I know nothing about. I focus on TS4 today because it is what I currently play. I also don't blame people who are still very attached TS3 and who still play it. I think that's great that it still has a loyal following. I've said this before but I'm probably not going to jump immediately for TS5 if I do at all. My opinion could change when I see a real product, but I think a lot of people are being unrealistic in terms of expectations.
I'm thinking of requests like, "I want everything included in the base game." Do you want to pay a lot more for that? Mostly, the answer is no.
At the end of the day, this is a game with a global reach and a long legacy. We also live in a world where there are a lot of "freemium" knock offs. Want to run your own cafe on Facebook and pay some cash every time you want new objects or to advance? That's what the competition is doing. I don't play those games, personally, and I prefer TS's approach. I feel less nickel-and-dimed by them than I would be by those games and yet, I know some people who love those and who sink a lot of hours into those. My point is that there is a big market out there, but that it is varied and it does change. Various players want different things and it is difficult to please all of them, all of the time.
My guess is that TS's social media campaign has been successful in drawing more players into the game. I know that's what brought me back in when I did. I think a lot of the game's players are following it in that way. I will say that I don't understand deeply complaining about products that someone can choose not to buy. I understand that some people want to make it known that they would like to see certain features in a new game, but the reality is that there are always going to be complaints with this kind of subject.
Anyway, all of this is just speculation at this stage.
