April 25, 2013 - First rumors and screenshots
May 6, 2013 - Official announcement : https://www.ea.com/news/the-sims-4-in-development-for-pc-and-mac
August 20, 2013 - CAS Demo (Everybody)
It was originally announced for Early 2014 (March) and delayed to Fall 2014 (September)
The Sims 3 was delayed from February to June 2009
The Sims 2 was also delayed to September 2004 instead of Early 2004

I would say :- FY Q1 (April/May) : Announcement
- FY Q4 (Feb/March) : First release date
- FY+1 Q2 (June) or Q3 (September) : Delayed release date
I got the demo before 'everybody' else. I was lucky I guess. Many of us were already on this forum long before 'everybody' else was moved over to here. Don't know how that worked but it's the truth.- FY Q1 (April/May) : Announcement

To people saying about the announcement - we've HAD no announcement. No teasers. No serious information. Just a collection of 'if'. After all, it just seems a foregone conclusion that after being released successfully on consoles this time, it will be released on consoles next time, and why release it on an old console when there's a new one coming out?
I think it's a pretty big deal if they have made agreements with Sony's (if true) PS5. It means they had to show them something to be included in a list Sony is considering to promote for PS5. There has to be legal contracts long before the game is even completed...so it's a big deal if it's all true."Cinebar;c-17529417" wrote:

@Cinebar They're EA they don't have to show anything more than a concept. They are a big company and are under contract. Also Sony and consoles in general are very very very interested in getting exclusives or at least getting a game their opponent might get. When a huge company like EA comes to them with an already popular game, trust me they don't even have to think twice about it before agreeing.- It's listed as TBA and TBC so it seems like it's purely speculation. Doesn't really confirm anything yet, even if it does confirm it, deciding which platforms the game will run on would likely be the very first thing done before development even starts.
- LoanetRising ScoutI heard from a Gamechanger that there will be no big Sims announcements at EA Play, so I think we can say goodbye to it being released this year. Or next.
- @Loanet Actually The Sims team itself said they wouldn't announce anything sims related like a week ago.
@KaeChan2089 unfortunately as much as I want the Sims 5 it will not be released this year and if it set to release next year then they need to announce it a year prior. If there is no announcement by the end of the year then you know it will take 'till 2022 or later.
Also the PS5 isn't even out yet and everything seems to hint that they will release the Sims 5 for PC and consoles at the same time so it might take a while. "Loanet;c-17540816" wrote:

TS5 didn't have to be announced at EA Play. I don't recall any of the iterations announced at EA Play. I recall TS4 announced like in March of 2013 so that wasn't EA Play.
It's my opinion it will get announced within the next six months or so, but of course I could be way off my predictions. :D"Cinebar;c-17543666" wrote:

@Cinebar I would love that but I do think they need more time. However if you think about it once they announce the game they have another full year to keep developing it. So who knows.
In games I'm more like "better later than earlier so the game doesn't suck"
I don't want another Sims 4 situation so I hope they take as much time as they need.- I agree about the rush on TS4 but it had four years+ just like any other game, but true the Olympus project didn't work out and they ditched that about one year and half before releasing TS4 as we know it now. So, yeah, TS4 is the result of 1 1/2 years to turn it into a single player and life simulator....we see the result. But to the best of my knowledge and rumors with some evidence they've been at work on the new game for at least 3 years now, so that's a lot better than just one and half years to salvage a game. ETA: Besides, has anyone ever decided what Project Icarus was? It was also a leaked project at the time of Project Olympus. Maybe that was Free Play or TS4(mobile) but I never saw anyone confirm it.
- LoanetRising ScoutA lot of sites are saying this but their presumption is that OBVIOUSLY Sims 5 will be ported to Consoles, and there's no point releasing it onto a lesser format. EA didn't say WHEN though. In fact it probably won't come out until ALL of the next-gen consoles have a solid footing.
They'll have ray-tracing, standard. And ray-tracing does not come cheap.
