Sims keeping affect from old traits?

I'd love to be able too reuse my partly skilled sims.. but my fear is that I'll see their old traits pop up. I haven't tried this for more than a year now.... so I guess this is still a problem.
Does anyone have an answer that doesn't use MCCC though? I'm really not needing that mod otherwise and it's just too big to add in for the little use I'd get out of it.
