So the empty lot in the mountain neighborhood in Mt. K...

I want to make a Japanese farmhouse with CoL but that neighborhood is always covered in snow. Would it make sense to have a farm at the top of the mountain? I would put it in another neighborhood but I feel like a farm wouldn't fit anywhere else in that world.

  • I don't think I would put one where it is always snowy, but that's just my personal choice. I would probably boot out the Ito family and make it on the 50x50 at the bottom right.
  • I'm actually curious how that will work and want to try it. I love that neighborhood.

Obviously there is limited agriculture in colder areas. You could limit crop types for realism, but I'd suggest a greenhouse instead. I think a crop limited animal focused farm with simple living could be a really cool challenge.

In short, it makes as much sense as you make it, like my beach farm is going to when I finally make it back Sulani (sand and seawater aren't exactly garden plant favs).

Yeah I'm wondering how I would have them have animals if it's always snowing. Maybe I could create sheltered areas. But I'm not sure if the sheltered areas would still have snow as it wouldn't make sense to have the animals walking in the snow but if creating some sheds would create a grassy area then that would work.

I also realized maybe rice fields with ponds would look cool but we don't have rice as a harvestable unfortunately but I think I would be able to find a custom rice harvestable. Same as someone made custom wheat which I will use to make flour as I don't like that we will have to buy stuff like flour, sugar, and animal feed.
  • I’ve built on the big snowy lot, and it’s possible to make areas with columns and roofing where you can see the bare ground underneath. Everywhere else is constantly covered with snow. But I didn’t test if this area is actually sheltered enough to grow plants. I’m guessing yes, because of the roof. But I don’t know if that means the CoL plant patches will work there. Trying those on a snowy area seems like it would be frustrating because you can’t see anything low to the ground in those parts.

I had also built a deck with a pool, all covered by a roof. But in freezing temps, I realized that pool wasn’t actually protected because most swim options were grayed out. But I am under the impression that this is even an issue with indoor pools.
  • the neighborhood with ito lot is pretty perfect for the purpose actually

I made Nishidakes new small house on the empty lot and i gave them a nice little gardening space and some bees I think they might get bunny friend or some birds when i get the new pack too

it isnt quite safe enough for chickens though cause i didn't fence the lot that well  so probably not those

waiting for pond tool though for the bigger lots in that neighborhood cause i just feel ponds go perfectly with japanese houses and its odd to build right before i could have that to play with

snowy area... doesn't seem very easy but maybe with the greenhouse thing

Same. I'm waiting for the update to make Japanese gardens. Especially on the park lot in the traditional neighborhood.

I think it does make sense to have them walk in the snow. Especially the large animals. There are cows pretty well everywhere and my neighbors keep them pastured rain, snow, or shine. Plus llamas are very hardy.

I can kind of see the point with chickens, though. I've got a flock and they're pretty notorious for hating snow. Then again some will get out in it. Chickens have breeds for cold and hot temperatures like dogs, though. I have a specific breed, the Russian Orloff, that is very good in cold weather. So I definitely think they can make sense.
  • I wish there were a mod to remove the snow. The unsnowy part of that world is so lovely.
