Painting, Gardening, Collecting, and Writing can all make tons of money, that's true. But if the money is coming in too quickly, self control helps.
The pace only goes as fast as you let it. (IMO) Agree or disagree.
I'm glad that careers aren't the only way to make money as I don't like always having my sims work. Personally though, I have no trouble making money with jobs or having no jobs. I rarely even have sims that paint or write. Some sims just live off of collectibles and some work. Just depends on my mood and how much time I want to spend with the sims.(Control wise)
I personally don't agree that all careers should make the same or similar profit, but that's just how I see it. I do wish there was more career variety as well as part time jobs for adults (no mods).
The end of this guide has a chart comparing job income:

Just my opinion of course.
But there are challenges that go along the line of making fast money. Legacy Challenge, Runaway Teen etc... They are more fun when you actually have a hard time at the beginning. But now you only have to collect enough money for one easel
and BOOM you're rich.
I understand where you're coming from but I can't relate. I start off with teens living by themselves and choose how I want them to make their income, as well as making them go to school. Some times I do it with only selling a certain type of plant, or gardening, or only fishing, or only collectibles, ect.
If something is too easy for me I don't do it or use it. I don't know, that's just me. But, I'm not disagreeing with anyone that what I listed are the "easy" ways of making money, but it's just as easy (to me) not to "abuse" those things, or even use them at all.
Not actually trying to argue anything lol.
