Spellcaster Family Surname Poll--Poll closed, thank you!

I'm doing kind of a loose legacy challenge, and while it wasn't the plan, my legacy has kind of turned into a family of spellcasters. My first heir generated a spellcaster aspiration, and married a spellcaster, so all her kids are spellcasters, so at this point I'm just kind of leaning into it. My reason for making this poll is this though: the person my current heir recently married and will shortly be having a child with just so happens to have the surname Spellman. They weren't a spellcaster already, but I made them one cause...like, the name is just fate, right? But now I'm wondering...should take on the Spellman name going forward? Cause that'd be pretty cool. But I also still feel quite attached to my orginal legacy surname (which is Shade, and reflects the kind of goth aesthetic I''ve been going for with them). So, third option would be maybe to combine them somehow? I could always just hyphen I suppose, but I'm also intrigued by the idea of just mushing them together, like Shadespell or Spellshade or something. So, what do you guys think? And why?

  • I like the idea of staying true to the family's roots. If Spellman were originally a spellcaster, I might suggest hyphenation (Shade-Spellman), but since that's not the case, I vote for just Shade.
  • I haven't played legacies so I don't know if the rules would allow it. But a suggestion depending on how you prefer to play it could also be interesting to "split" the family. As in having one child that continues the "Shade" name and step out of being spellcasters and another child with the "Spellman" name who stays spellcasters.

But if that isn't an option I would vote for keeping the "Shade" name since you started with it and if your sims descendants in the future would end up as other occults or non occults "Shade" would still fit them.

Spellman is too Sabrina and that feels kinda cliche for me. Shade was the original legacy name and is also feels fitting for spellcasters anyway :)

You wrote down my exact thoughts! I do like Sabrina, but Shade is more original.
  • Thanks guys! I'll stick with Shade, you're right, it still fits occult sims and it was the original name, and while Spellman felt serendipitous, it IS a bit cliche. I might let the spouse keep it or hyphenate it, but going forward I'll stick with the original legacy surname for all the offspring and such. Merlin, and his sisters, and his heir, will all remain Shades :D
