Spellcasting and Elders

You could always get one of the “immortal”-potions otherwise.

I’m not sure if anything has been confirmed, but this was my take away from the livestream-

Spellcasters have a magic meter separate from the Energy bar. The more they use magic, the meter fills. This is good to a certain extent, because as they fill up with magical power, they become more powerful. But raw magic is dangerous, and if the meter fills too high they risk losing control of their powers which will lead to death. This effects all spellcasters, no matter how old they are. A familiar can save them, and there are perk points to prevent this from happening (I think).

Elders have always been at risk of dying from over exertion. This can happen if they woohoo too often or exercise too much. This has to do with their Energy bar. I don’t think that over exertion and magic are connected. Two separate things, two separate deaths.

Maybe you would find your elder more likely to become over exerted from dueling, I’m not sure if that will count as a strenuous physical activity. But I would assume elders can still be very powerful spellcasters despite their age.

Again, just my impression from the livestream. I’m not positive on how it’ll work ?

EDIT to add: there’s always the immortality potion to make sure your sim stays safe ?

@miss_simlish Thanks. Yeah, I was wondering if dueling would be bad for her. I really do want to leave her as an elder for this. And then maybe once she gets immortality and defeats Vlad she will get her youth and beauty back.

Oh yes, now I remember you cool witch with the white hair and the cat. You know you could always save often then you can always go back if you get an unfortunate game over. We don't know how taxing magic is to elders since we haven't played it yet so I guess one way is just to wing it. Give it a try to just play with her straight away and see how it goes. If it doesn't work then it is time to start looking at alternative plans.

Your witch looks awesome! Try her as an elder and see how it goes, think it will be a great story :)

@SilentKitty Good idea. I will have to remember to save often, maybe just before a duel or something. Just in case. She's a long term sim of mine who is high up in a lot of skills (even fitness) I changed her in CAS for this role in this story when vampires came out.

And true enough! At least I will know how spell casting works with elders and if there are any pitfalls to it.

It seems they can 'block' Grim from taking you (possibly from ANY death) if you have one summoned but then they'll be too weak to save you again for a few hours there might even be a moodlet to track this cooldown.

What exactly does Immortality potion do, is its effect permanent?

I hope so! And probably pauses aging thus it's probably useless if you turn off aging like me

Age-down potion is what we REALLY need, especially for elders. As mentioned, immortality potion is useless for those who turn off aging, and rejuvenate potion is useless because there are already two alternatives, one is even in BASE game.
So the age-down is what's missing and it STILL won't be here even with RoM! I hope they maybe patch rejuvenate potion in the future to have age down effect.
