Starting Over with Just $100

Which packs would you choose if you were starting over from scratch with just $100.00?

I don't have a PC or a Mac right now, but I do have a PS5. I am not able to transfer my PC games over to Playstation, so I am starting over from scratch. I also have a Chromebook and two 15+ year old computers with Linux, but I cannot play Sims on them.

When I started buying Sims 4 packs for PC, I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't understand that radio stations and aspirations were included in packs, and I knew nothing about cross compatibility or overlap. Often I bought the packs listed in a nice looking Gallery lot or Gallery sim. Gradually I ended out with everything, and it took me a long time to gradually realize what came in which pack and how to use it all.

Starting over is so different. There are recent packs that include things that are so similar to older packs that skipping the older packs is possible. There are things that I thought that I HAD to have but that I quickly grew tired of and stopped using, like chickens and cows.

If you were starting over with just $100.00, what would you buy? Why? Use whatever prices apply to you. Or use the pricelist that applies to me right now. Here is the link to the current Playstation prices:

I like to play rags to riches and never pursue a full-time career. Whatever I buy next, I want it to complement what I have already bought. So far I have spent $63 on the following:

Outdoor Retreat $13.99 (more plants and camping stuff)
My Wedding Stories $14.99 (Tartosa for the swimmable water, flower/food stalls, and $1K island lot)
Tiny Living $9.99 (Tier 1 Tiny Home perks)
Cool Kitchen Stuff $6.99 (diet icecream)
Chef Hustle $9.99 (selling table)
Nifty Knitting $6.99 (rock radio and Plopsy)

The only other cheap lot that is also in a cheap pack that is currently on sale for me is Strangerville $13.99. Here is a quick list of the cheapest lots in Sims 4.

If I skip seasons, then I can use appliances outside without them breaking, right? Movie Night $6.99 would give me popcorn to sell on the Chef Hustle table and without seasons, I could watch movies outside? Without Get to Work, I don't have the baking recipes, but I am not spending $40.00 to get them. The Halloween Bundle is a great deal at $29.00, but I think that I can going to go as occult free as possible this time around. I might wait until this current sale ends and see if something I want more goes on sale for Black Friday. Without Seasons, I would really like Snowy Escape. Or maybe Horse Ranch for the nectar making. I'd love to make a Vineyard on Tartosa.

I started a couple threads in the Console subforum that overlap wit this thread, but that subforum is pretty dead, so I decided to start a thread with a wider topic.

  • I am not sure what I might be able to download from the gallery from a Sims Session. Months ago, on the PC, I downloaded a sims session tent and it functioned, but it kept flashing. I deleted it. What were the Sims Session bathroom options and has anyone downloaded and used any gallery versions?

I cannot access the camping bathroom without debug, but I might be able to download a lot with one already added, without that counting as a"cheat".

There seems to be some cross-pack compatibility with the drinks from Spa Day and the Chef Hustle table that I was not expecting. The drinks need to be removed from the tray to be sold separately from the tray. I have not figured out the most efficient way to do that yet.

Everything is snappy on PS5 with just these few packs installed. So far, It is just the lack of any free bathroom at all in the Newcrest neighborhood with the Cozy Cubby lot that has left me floudering. I am about to move my sim out of there. I just plopped her there when I started the game, and only bought portable items while I figured out what I wanted to do. I guess I should choose a neighborhood with a public bathroom for now.

There should be one in Horse Ranch too.

I don't think Horse Ranch for Playstation will be going on sale for a very long time. I guess I need to decide if I want it or don't want it. If I do want it, waiting will not make it cheaper, unless I factor in the interest charged while I pay off the credit card debt that I will create by purchasing it, now.

I think there is a chance that Snowy Escape might go on sale for Black Friday or Christmas.

  • It has been so instructional to start over with fewer packs. When a newbie starts off with everything, it is overwhelming. There is so much that I am seeing and understanding now that I did not notice or understand when I jumped straight in to managing werewolf rages.

Stripping away all the occults and seasons and having fewer worlds and families is ... I don't know the word for it. It is simple in a good way. It is peaceful. And more oldschool.
  • Wait for a sale

    Seasons 20.00
    Growing Together 20.00 dollars
    Parent hood 13.99

  • The Playstation Black Friday sale has been a great sale for the EPs. I am glad that I slowly added the packs one at a time. I have a much better understanding of how the game works when I was unable to fall back into my old default patterns of play.

If I had to start over again, I would spend $100 differently depending on whether I am playing on a PC or a console. NO mods, NO CC, NO cheats, and NO debug is very different than using these options very sparingly. The reality is not what I imagined. I am satisfied with console play, but I have fallen into a different default play style.

I was not planning on adding High School Years at all, but I find Copperdale much easier to start a broke and low skilled Sim when playing on console. I love Snowy Escape, but that is a really harsh world to start without any public computers and only one fishing spot. Without HSY installed, Snowy Escape teens cannot quit school, even if there is a public computer. And if you have a laundry bucket added to your lot, teens make a pile of laundry every time they change in and out of their uniform, and the clothes cannot dry fast enough to keep up with the piles. It was chaos. The impossible kind.
  • If I only had $100 to spend on Sims 4, I would wait for a sale.
I would get the Cats and Dogs expansion
Vampires, Werewolves, and Realm of Magic.
    Paranormal
    Tiny Living and Nifty Knitting.
