Strangerville; anyone else slightly horrified?

I really wish I hadn't watched that trailer. OK, I'm not feeling well at the moment which I know is partly to blame, but still.
And I've seen plenty of horror films in my time that were far worse; maybe the reason I feel like this is because I typically associate the Sims (especially TS4) with pleasant, safe, happy stuff.
Maybe it's just me, but crazy zombie-esque infections, the implication of multiple dislocated joints and plum creepy facial expression has just left me cringing and wanting to avoid everything to do with this pack.

Is it just me?

It definitely looks like it was inspired by the huge popularity of Stranger Things.

It’s content I don’t really feel belongs in a main series Sims game. When I solve that story, am I ever going to want to play with this pack again? If I don’t want to solve it at all, am I basically paying for a world? And who knows if they truly are able to contain the crazy Sims in that one world with the way the bugs in this game run rampant sometimes.

It feels as if the developers were finally catching up with providing us creative tools, but taking away our ability to freely tell a story with a world, and forcing their own upon us is something I hope doesn’t return in the series as a pack’s main and entire selling point ever again.

We still have more to see, I’m sure, but right now, I’m not too enthused whatsoever. In fact, I don’t know if it’s something I would want in my game, even if given to me for free.

I agree with a lot of this.

I don’t have any problems with the theme and for me as a huge gamer and love of horror games, the trailer didn’t faze me personally I think if anything the game needs a break from happy utopia land where consequences are minimal.

But my biggest concern is the story. Ive been told it’s about five hours long in sim time and the fact it’s linear means you probably won’t do it more than once. A producer said once “it’s not the story WE want to tell” but I’m not sure I want the game telling stories for me. Especially if their version of a good story is different to mine. I guess we can only wait and see.

I have never played the side games with a story, not given them much thought really. Yet I'm very excited that this is coming to the main game because it means I can use my own sims to play through the story and it will seamlessly be part of my rotational save. I wouldn't have bought a separate game for it but I find it interesting that they're expanding TS4 to this direction.

I am with you . I don’t like this pack theme except Militrary career.

Only thing that slightly unnerved me was the backbreaking angle at the end of the "transformation" scene but otherwise it's pretty tame, lol. But still looks like fun.
