Ukupanipo - you got the k and n switched around. It's the name of a Hawaiian shark god. Hence his slightly creepy look in his merman form and I suspect his traits are meant to reflect the meaning as well - being glutton, but with a high metabolism to keep fit. I'm very partial to him.
