I agreed with the other commenters on the emotions. At the moment, I have the Meaningful Stories mod, as it allows for more negative emotions and reduces the Happy emotion. Sims 2 and Sims 3 didn't need such a mod, as the personalities and emotions were done better in the older games. I didn't play Sims 2 much, but I did play Sims 2 pets on a Gamecube. Sometimes if my sims argue, the other sim is left fuming. Zodiac signs, however, were restricted to certain personalities. Sims 3 allows more freedom in choosing any zodiac sign regardless of personality traits.
You could tell how a Sim was feeling by looking at their moodlets panel in the UI. Their faces also shows certain emotions from negative moodlets. Take the Scared moodlet, for example. If they have this moodlet, their eyes would widen, and they would frown. Sims with opposing personalities don't get along well.
As much as I like Sims 4 in some aspects, like occults being the central focus in their game packs, the sims themselves tend to act a bit too friendly. The Sims team should give the fourth iteration an overhaul in personality traits, emotions, consequences, and even the features we loved in previous games. Males, children, and toddler needed more CAS items, while teens need to be differentiated from young adults. Maybe flesh out the teens, children, and elders a little more?
On another note, semi-open neighborhoods would be a good idea. I liked how in the Sims 3, you were able to see the sims leave their houses and travel somewhere.
