I've never played Makin' Magic or the witches from Sims 2. Sims 3 Supernatural has potions that don't recycle previous features, and its witches are able to cast curses. They don't level up their skill easily, and can take a long time to level up. Sims 4 spellcasters level up too easily, and thet could become a master within a Sim day or half day of practice.
ROM's spellcasters, if they get all the perks, are overpowered. Potions are repackaged cheats. Most spells work the same way as the Simray from Get to Work. Don't even get me started on fairies - they're magical, too. Instead of this life state returning, we got a familiar that looks like Navi from Legend of Zelda.
I should never have fell for the hype in the first place. Instead of the bait-and-switch false advertisement type trailers for each lackluster pack, EAxis should improve the Sims 4.
Oh, and vampires are overrated. They got too much love in the Sims series, especially the Sims 4. Someone at EAxis must be obsessed with Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, and anything else in the media that includes vampires. No wonder EAxis watered down the witches/spellcasters in RoM, and no wonder fairies from TS3 Supernatural didn't make a comeback.
Before anyone asks about how I view werewolves, I don't play with werewolves very much. Even if werewolves and fairies were to make a comeback in 4, EAxis would recycle features from past packs and possibly the base game (not to mention CAS and build/buy items).
