Only the offline players like you are not counted in the stats.
There are a lot of people not tracked. One of the more popular mods actively blocks the game from phoning home in any capacity JIC you forget to go into offline mode. And there are a lot of off-line players. I don't think I'm tracked as I'm on patch 1.67 and I have a combination of Amazon downloads and physical disks, and I do not use the launcher.
But I will say this -- there have to be quite a few people still buying the packs and playing. Steam usually lists thousands of people currently playing Sims 3, and Steam is the least popular platform on which to play it. And they're still making a lot of $$ on the store. I don't think they care so much as to how many people are still playing so much as to how many people are still buying.
