You know, I think you hit on something there. It's definitely unleashing my inner storyteller that I didn't even know was there, not to this degree, and that is more of the appeal, than the actual gameplay alone.

What some of you have said about TS3 makes me want to take another look, though I still have a bad taste in my mouth from TS3 and/or TS2 (I really didn't play either one that much due to having far less gaming free time at the time, and finding whichever it was, cumbersome to learn and/or too steep a slog to build relationships quickly enough for quick gaming sessions that got anywhere. I remember thinking, if it's going to take as long to do everything as it does in real life, then nothing interesting is ever going to happen in my game. I gave up after having a Sim literally live and then die rather prematurely of old age after a very dull life of going to work and coming home, and living on jam sandwiches because seriously, every single detail of life took too much handling and doing, for it to feel like a game ever.

I am interested in where all this combined energy and interest toward storytelling life simulation gaming is going to go in the near future, if the Sims franchise were to implode (hoping it will evolve and stay pertinent, rather than just die). In particular I'm on the edge of my seat along with everyone else, to see where quantum computing might take us in the development of AI. We live in exciting times.

That for me was the problem with Sims 1 and the exact reason I never reopened it (it was that, not a matter of quiting so much, rather just that, never bothering anymore). Sims 2 I missed out on, Sims 3 for me actually was exactly where what you describe fell into place: finally being able to play a sim’s life focusing on fun things to do, instead of cleaning up the house and feeding them and making them sleep and seeing them drive off to some invisible job.

I don’t mind the fact Sims 4 is focused on storytelling. I mind the game doesn’t hand me anything in that respect, mainly because sims don’t react to each other and nothing surprising happens in the social field. It’s exactly that what hands me the stories in Sims 3. Something happens and my imagination picks it up. I don’t want the game to be some sort of dead stage where I can push around characters. I need it to interactive. And imposing ready to go stories (like the way apartments work in the game and this one pack, Stangerville), that’s not what I consider interactive.
