I would guess it's exactly the same code as if your sims and the npc's are at a bar or at home. So really their is no difference in that part of it. There is a mod that stops autonomous drinking. Of course that includes the mixology bar too since it's a ll the same to the Sim.

What I find annoying is at a wedding, it's a real pain to get enough people to have a drink for part of the achievement. Their all are just yak yak yaking and are socializing or on their phones.
People in real life don't do that. They stand waiting for a command and do exactly what they are told.
Also when I have friends and family over, I don't let them go near the sink, and I lock the fridge. I make sure the cupboard with all the cups and glasses is locked too so they don't sneak a drink from the bathroom. I keep tea and coffee hidden in the attic until they're gone. That way I don't have a whole bunch of dishes to pick up around the house and wash when they leave! Problem solved!
