I actually keep the fridge stocked up on a variety of food now. As soon as they are done cooking and everyone who needs/wants to eat grabbed a serving, I put it in the fridge. The only real reason I would have more than one fridge is because only one sim at a time can grab a meal from it. If I have more than one fridge, then one anyone can access, but the others I limit either by locking the door to a room or someone claiming the fridge. Far more effective that way! I also put drinks in the fridge. Not water though, lol
