But you do expect a Sim to know a Sim is standing right in front of them in the yard don't you? In TS2 the might wave at them at least that's something.
Again, I haven't noticed this. I have npc's swarm me when I'm at the library or gym, all of them initiating conversations wtih my sim. Don Lothario would come over and visit, and he would take care of the baby (feed, change, socialize with). When the baby was crying, the youngest son would go and talk to the baby without my queing it up. Maybe I'm just not understanding your problem, but I think the autonomy is working well.
