You don't need to fellow your sim to work. The only careers you need to do are the freelancer ones and thats what like %10 of the careers we have. I don't understand why we can't have both options like we've had in the past when they add active/semi-active careers.
I think people mean that although you can select to send your Sim alone to an active career, they don’t make much (if any) progress towards promotions when sent alone.
So if you aren’t a player that wants to play an active career a ton, it’s kind of pointless to have your Sim in one.
