Buy and large this is the same game that I fell in love with in 2000. Regardless of all the bells and whistles, I will play the game and enjoy its new features. However, there are a few minor things that kinda irked me, simply because they appear to be so minor that were simply overlooked.
That being said, I am thoroughly enjoying the game so far. I commend everyone's hard work and eagerly await the patches that will remedy some of these things :)
edit: i have discovered cas.fulleditmode and i can work with that.
- It was really difficult to try to figure out how to get ONE sim to move out of the household. It was so easy in TS3 with the cell phone and I would really like the ease of that to return. I honestly don't remember how I did it and will have to figure it out again later.
- It also seemed like there was WAY too much for kids to have to do, and not nearly enough time to do it. For school they had to get to level 4 on all these different skills and finish homework every night, then there was a bunch of stuff for their aspiration, too. It seemed like you had to choose one or the other.
- But at the same time, (as far as I can see) skills earned as a child started over when they aged up into teens, which made it seem like all the work I did as a child was for naught. Is there a benefit to doing all of that work??
- I would like to be able to see my Sim's needs (etc) while they are at work or school or off the lot. Things like that I would take into consideration for what they did while there -- when their job bar was full they could make friends; if their needs were low they could slack off; If needs were high they could work hard.
- I didn't like in the "Big Happy Family" aspiration that a requirement was to adopt a child. Some families that's just not something I want them to do, but for that sim to be successful they have to. If, say....there were a pool of tasks for the aspiration at each level that were randomly selected, that would be okay. There's a CHANCE they would have to adopt... i could work with that. But I like genetics too much to do that all the time.
- So, in TS3 I was a total control freak and had mods so that I could keep the marriage names of the townies and their children how I wanted. So the fact that marriage doesn't change the last name of my playable family and there is NO WAY (even with cheats) to change it, is KILLING ME. I would really, really, really, really, REALLY like to see that change. I'm all about feminism, but even default hyphenating would be better than everyone's parents having different last names.
- Finally, I was a big fan of the Family Tree and would very much like to see its return as well.
