I do miss the open world and CAS. That said, I've been enjoying it so far. There is enough familiar for it to still feel like The Sims but enough different to create an enjoyable learning curve.
It look something like 11 expansion packs for my Sims3 to get to where it was by the time Sims4 came out. I guess with that much distance between the base game it is easy for folks to forget how 'base' they tend to be.
Maybe it is because I am old but I am fine with starting with what feels like Sims1 Reloaded. Sometimes you have to start again for things to build up to be even better than before rather than being limited by continuing to build on top of previous changes. I have faith that what will eventually present itself is a product that integrates the 'best of' parts of the past games while bringing in its own things.
Heck, maybe this will allow for some different expansion pack themes than the same ones that have been rehashed time and time again.
