I posted this a few days ago as a new thread. Thought I 'd share it after seeing this one...
First a quick background…I've been a simmer for a good 12 years. I did not get hooked until about 2 years after the original Sims was released. I was so excited for The Sims 4, up until about a month before release. That's when I started really hearing all the negativity about the game. I had pre-ordered the premium edition at my local GameStop. On release day I looked at as many reviews and posts as I could to try and get a handle on whether it was worth the nearly 90$ I was about to spend on it. Ultimately I decided not to buy it and cancelled my pre-order. Throughout that day I continued to read people’s opinions on the game and swayed back and forth on if I should get it or not. It was not until 10:30pm when I saw a YouTube video of new game play footage that I determined that there was enough there to justify at least the standard edition. I jumped in my car and picked it up. Since then, I have been playing whenever I've had the chance.
Now after 50 hours of game play, I believe I have a good feel for the game (as to what it offers). Here are just some random thoughts in no particular order.
• I love the graphics, which is odd because looking at screenshots, the game looked "cartoony". But now I totally dig it.
• Emotions are a good thing; they really bring something deeper to the game.
• The camera is awful. I know there is a Sims 3 mode but it is not full Sims 3 camera. Whether building or simming I am constantly cursing the darn camera. EA NEEDS to fix this.
• I need my color wheel and Create a Style. Out of all the things they omitted…These are the things I miss the most. EA took away my uniqueness and my sense of style and I want it back! I am sure there are plenty of you who share my sentiment.
• I loved the open world in Sims 3 but I don’t miss it. While the number of lots is much smaller. The concentration of Sims in my opinion is much greater. The game runs really smooth. No stutters like in The Sims 3. While the loading screens do break some immersion, I do understand why they did this. I don’t mind them, for me they don’t take that long and the game runs better because of them.
• They dumbed down build mode way too much. There are things I do like and things I hate. There is an auto flooring issue that drives me crazy,
especially when I am building lofts, which are my favorite kind of houses to build.
• I love the multitasking but it takes sims too long to perform certain tasks while multitasking. This is something I think EA should tweak. Good feature, just needs some work.
Nearly done, thanks for sticking around. Here are my final thoughts.
• The game is pretty decent; the main flaw is it’s INCOMPLETE. EA really should have waited at least another 6 months before releasing it. With missing standard features and some (mostly minor) bugs/glitches. The fact that EA released this game in the state its in is a little troubling. But there is nothing completely game breaking, at least that I have experienced. Just 50 or so little things that they need to fix. Luckily there are cheats to remedy many of these minor issues. But I shouldn't have to cheat for the game to work correctly.
• I don’t regret my purchase but it was not worth the 60+$ I spent on it. 40$ is more of a fair price for the game at this point. However, I have enjoyed playing this game, despite some frustrations.
• All in all it is not a complete failure (just under-cooked) A little more time in the oven should remedy this. I think there is ton a potential here and I believe within a years time (maybe less), If EA wants to stop being named worst company in America, the Sims 4 will be the best Sims game yet. As long as EA doesn't blow up the oven
• I give The Sims 4 a 6.2 out of 10. If you have not picked it up yet, wait until it’s on sale or have store cash or credit you can use. It is worth playing, just not worth the MSRP.
Thanks and Happy Simming! :D
