I’m not sure a game with twenty seven pieces of dlc should ever be praised for not being expensive.
And no before anyone comes at me, the sims 3 store was optional. You didn’t have to buy any of it and in many cases (mine) I got it all for free via EP registration and points.
Try playing sims 3 without stuff packs or game packs. You wouldn’t want to as the game would be boring. Right now the sims 4 without any sales is almost £500 and that figure will continue to rise.
And for what it’s worth I have games from previous generations. I found my sims 2 expansion that was 19.99, I have a sims 3 expansion with a 24.99 price tag on it.
You don't have to buy any of the DLC. It's all optional, as well. Rather you find it boring or not without the packs, the fact remains all the DLC for Sims 4 is as optional as the Sims 3 store you deem as optional, as well.
And you do not have to eat three meals a day, but it sure is nice to eat three times a day. The point is that this game is not 'complete' without all DLC and that is what Midnight was aiming for. Are you telling me you could just play the base game right now, with the same enthusiasm and longevity as you would if you had all packs? There is a reason why most people do not bother with Sims games until three or four EPs release.
I don't eat three meals a day, anyways. I only eat one meal a day. And you do have to eat. So your example is not really argued.
I have just played the base game, but why would I? I'm not one crying that the game is too expensive. I buy every pack, day of release, for full price. And you won't hear me complaining about it. Cause I understand it's all optional. Even the game itself. No one forces me to play this game. No one forces me to buy DLC. No one forces me to do anything. The only thing I do have to do is eat...
And if "most" people wait, that is another choice. And they'd be able to wait for packs for sales. But, as for me, I feel the game isn't expensive when I take into consideration how much time I spent on it, what I pay for hours enjoyed, and how much I spend on other silly things in comparison.
What a person "feels" they need to enjoy the game does not suddenly make it a requirement. It's still optional. A requirement is what YOU MUST HAVE to run the game. Such as a computer (or console). That is a requirement. A cool new shirt and a fun new feature... an option.
