I'm not usually one for Sims 5 speculation, but the Sims 4 going free and a "special" sims event being announced at the same time, with a whole months notice and a "save the date"? I don't think they'd give this much notice if it was just a stream to talk about a roadmap and bugs..
It also says "Big The Sims Announcements", not "Big Sims 4 Announcements" and the new plumbob logo and branding...
With The Sims 4 going free to play, our team is more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful The Sims 4 experiences for our players and we will continue to develop and release packs, kits and Sims Delivery Express drops into the foreseeable future. We’ll be sharing more about what’s in the works during a special-edition stream, Behind The Sims Summit on October 18, 2022 at 10 am PDT via The Sims YouTube and Twitch channels, also available on demand!
Gosh, with the base game going free, does that mean I get a refund? Oh, that's right I got a free kit which normally only costs around five bucks. Whoop-di-do!
In my life, I've bought too many things full price only have them go on sale the next day to be really stressed about it. I've enjoyed Sims 4 enough not to feel like my money was wasted on it just because someone else doesn't have to pay for it next month.
I will say, however, that I agree that the free kit doesn't fly as a thank you. I mean, I don't mind free stuff... I downloaded it... but honestly it's a kit I don't care about, never would have bought and I really doubt I'll actually ever use. As "thank you for your loyal support" gifts go, it's blah at best.
