I hate these hats! They're the eyeball ring of headwear. They look like they should be a toque (or beanie depending where you are from) and yet I have NEVER in my whole life, worn one like that, or seen anyone wear one like that. If they don't cover the whole ears, at least partial ears. The only time I can make these hats work on a sim is if their hair style covers the ears and I can kind of pretend they're not as ridiculous.
I'm also from Northern Canada, so what do I know about these things? Maybe this is how they wear them in California when the weather gets breezy? :D
