I like details like this too... but I don't like them to happen too often.
I must say, that we now have in RL a gas only fire place. At first I was disappointed. Had wood-burning fireplaces in our first two homes. But after awhile I find I'm very happy not to have to sweep up the wood bits and stuff that ends up on the hearth.
