Sadly the filthy lot trait doesn't seem to work at all. I have been through an entire Spring and a Summer (28 days) with my sim and not once did the stove get dirty and he makes at least one single meal a day. Not to mention things get dirty at the normal pace, the counter only got dirty twice xD, in four sim weeks.
Perhaps it is broken.
