EA didn't tell a number about 2019
Feb. 2019 : "our Sims 4 community grew by 4.8 million unique players last year"

This was due to the BG being free on Origin......lol Not to mention it's priced the same as a SP on Steam right now and on Origin several times before. TS3 BG was never as low as 10€ on Origin or Steam and it still isn't! :p
