Its not my thing for sure, but I'm glad they've decided to do something like this for the people who'll enjoy it. I do tend to prefer game content over spin-off projects but I very seriously doubt that the team working on the game is the same team that's working on Spark'd. There's no reason that both can't be enjoyed by those who wish to do so. GL to the people participating and have fun to those who'll watch :D
