Im assuming you meant “utensils.” I’m one of those builders that put utensils above/back wall of the stove, like the knives. I would imagine someone cooking would like easy access to their utensils for cooking. I like the look, to me it’s nice clutter. What’s weirder is putting a fire detector right above the stove...IRL that’s bound to go off every. single. time. But what I truly find wacky is when people make beautiful builds that you cant use. I never download anything without a play tested green light.
Unplayable builds are usually designed for story telling and photos or could be a shell challenge. If you are on tumblr and build with alpha custom content this is not considered wacky. There are even players who pay for these builds via commission or Patreon. Personally I think if you upload a lot to the public for money it should be playable.
I hate the fire alarm and wish we had a mounted ceiling version. I sometimes hide it behind a cabinet or place it above the fridge. Utensils above the stove are fine, I tend to build using the triangle layout for kitchen so it still feels realistic.
Building realistic and immersive builds can be tricky using only vanilla assets. I like my curtain rods to sit close to the ceiling and have the hem skim the floor, it draws the eye up. Our curtain selection is pretty dismal and small. With custom content this is not an issue, Peacemaker alone makes this so much easier. Probably why bathrooms are not so private. I do not have an issue if the build is a modern mansion on a huge lot or in the city.
Rugs can also be hard to get right, all seating should be on the rug completely or at least the first two feet. Unfortunately sometimes the rugs are either too big or too small, sizing up can make them huge. I am not a big fan of the slanted rug look I see quite a bit in builds, diagonal only works if layered on top of another rug or one that has curves like a cow skin.
Placing two stoves or fridges together, it does not look like a double range or a huge fridge. Most furniture made by placing meshes together or the tool mod, I usually can see what you did and it looks out of place in the game. Still admire the creativity but something about it feels a little off. Same with placing two sofas together to make a sectional, only a couple like the sofas from My First Pet to Moschino work, the rest have that flickering at the corner.
