They should ring the bell, and you will have an option to trick or treat. Unless you have a bowl of candy on your lot, then they will just help themselves. And if the candy is indoors, they will walk right in and take a piece of candy from the bowl
I will sometimes put the bowl out by the front door on a little table if I don't feel like greeting them. Was this your only trick/treater to visit?
