Oh, so that's why! That's good to know.
(In the last week of uni I checked on my sims' fellow students and except for one girl with a D+ they were all on academic probation. But I interacted a lot with them, took them to club outings or invited them to my house. I didn't know the game really plays those students, I thought it simply assigned them average grades. Anyway, taking the failing townies under my wing for the last week helped them all get their degrees.)
