I like the way they handled the weather situation in TS4. In real life, weather reports have become far more accurate over the years because of better technology. Why shouldn't our Sims benefit from this as well?
As for the seasons being shorter, you can change one of the settings in the calendar to have each season last several weeks. There have been posts on this board about how that affected Sims' birthdays.
