I don't have the thermostat on much. In winter, fireplaces seem to warm up the house and in summer, my Sims never overheat if only they wear hot weather clothing. It doesn't matter if they are inside or outside. I believe I saw a Sim be cold in his bedroom once when it was freezing even with the fireplace lit. I turned on the thermostat that day. I don't know, my game may be buggy.
