I don't mind at all if the bunnies bring things when I ask them to do so. It's the stream of simoleons for nothing at all that I find irksome. To be honest I find having random money just show up for no reason to be more immersion breaking than asking a semi-sentient pile of dirt to bring me a prize. The latter is intentional, the former is not.
To make a comparison, if you own one of the rodents from MFPS they will sometimes bring you postcards and occasionally "write a book" for which you get a payment (I think it was $500 or so last time). To me that was amusing and part of the quirkiness of owning a pet which also occasionally travels to space on its own or sets off a nuclear blast in its habitat. If random money rolled in just from owning the thing, even small amounts, that would irritate me. Having it happen with the bunnies seems so off the wall as a programmed behavior I almost want to think it's a bug.
