I ran the numbers. I went to the Sims 3 store and searched for "*" and got 3190 results. I took the average of the first 50 results and it came to 233.5 simpoints. A simpoint is worth 10 cents. So everything on the Sims 3 store costs approximately $74,486.50. As for DLC/the game itself, the total is $439.81. So grand total, you're looking at $74,926.31 to own everything the Sims 3 has to offer. Start saving those pennies!
Thankfully they ditched these micro transactions with TS4 which is just another way TS4 is better than ts3
That was just an estimate, not an accurate calculation and based on average not market value. Someone actually calculated it to be around $698.72 for the store. Sims store was miserable and glitchy, but had a few nice items like toddler and farm items. But I think it was a way to see how much people were willing to spend since Sims 4 was initially going to be a MMO game. EA is wanting to turn the Sims 5 into one, but that is a topic for another discussion. Sims 3 wasn't cheap, but Sims 4 is over double the pack price of the Sims 3 packs, so microtransactions still work to some extent with the stuff packs. But yes why I never was a fan of stuff packs because they are just microtransactions in disguise since the Sims 2 days.
