@TOLKIEN believe it or not, there are people who were interested in playing sims 4 but couldnt due to the cost. Not everyone has disposable income. In fact, ive already seen several new Sims 4 players on social media. And in fact that seem to be enjoying it so far <3
I mean its inevitable there would be gamers who couldn't afford it and EA sent out a email to anybody who has origin to claim the Sims 4 for free- where in they never did that when the game was on sale for $5. Plus not everybody has a way to spend money online (especially younger teenagers, kid, ect). So ya I totally know there will be people super excited to get it for free - but my point remains the same that outside of those players mentioned above I suspect a large majority of people NOT included above who grab the game are most likely using origin to play either battlefield or Fifa - and for a lot of those players is Sims is just a passing 2 minute interest.
One thing that has always amazed me is when you look at new "big" game releases on steam and the achievements, how many people don't progress beyond the first 10 minutes of the game. That always blows my mind. Like that one achievement you get for playing up to a certain unavoidable opening of the game and only 60-70% of people who own the game have gotten it.
I do find it interesting though that they gave the Sims 4 away for free before the Sims 3, especially since they gave the Sims 2 away.
BUT on that hand, as a "service" it makes sense to give the Sims 4 away for free and to be perfectly honest based on the constant $5 sales the base game has - if I was EA I'd make the Sims 4 free forever at this point in its life cycle. That way you make the real money from the packs.
