Nice pics, love the one with the fog. Residential lots sound like a good change, maybe some townhouses of my higher Sim count Saves. In my template save, I have a family type restaurant, an art gallery/cafe, a retail store, and the bowling alley. The architecture is the Willow Creek Victorian style. It's a great idea to combine bowling alley and skating--gonna do that pronto. I'll try to remember to attach some pics when I get back to my desktop.
The retail store sells upgraded appliances/fixtures for my Sims that want them, but aren't Handy. The lady that owns this shop also does woodworking. She maxes out the upgrades, for a hefty mark up. Since she has Handiness Skill of 10, and has completed the Nerd Brain Aspiration, she can Insta Upgrade things. When I'm done playing her and restocking the store, I try to remember to mark her as Unplayed. I once did that by accident, and she showed up as a repairperson in San Myshuno, haha. I also have a fully skilled copy of her if she ever gets culled. ;)
I also go on the Gallery and DL rooms with custom artwork in them, then transfer it to the art gallery. That way my Sims can shop for some more variety of paintings and photography for their homes.
