I like playing a female sim before she finds a partner because I want to contribute to the career advancement and have her become a boss woman with her own independence and financial stability. (Although gold diggers are super fun to play too...)
I suppose I have a lot of females in my game, but I occasionally switch to single household males and I like having them bond with their bros and build skills in regard to their hobbies, etc. Eventually when household split and merge happens, and a male sim comes in, I love to focus on them. Especially if I'm playing families and I'm a softie for good dads that dedicate time to their kids.
Lastly...I love having at least one tattooed, burly bodybuilder with a kitten or puppy. It's a must for every gameplay in my opinion.
