What happens after you become Chief of Police? And Other Gameplay Questions

I was really wondering this too earlier today. I think what happens is that you just continue to do what the task are of a Chief. That is my guess. But I do know in WA you could do it with another Sim but not with the same Sim that completed it cause it would not reset. As far as other Sims who have jobs in the home is confusing me too. What does happen to them. Maybe its like when you go on vacation and they get left at home and you are just playing the one Sim.
