My PC is well over a decade old and really needs replacing but I'd rather not so I have to work with the CPU I have so don't want to over buy on the power in the graphics card if it isn't going to be something I'm going to even be aware of. Someone should come up with a standardization on naming these cards too.
Depending on your the age of your CPU what kind of GPU you wish to upgrade to will matter. The latest and greatest GPU will not play well with an CPU that is too old as long and it also goes vice versa as long as they are not too old but performance may be less again depending on the age.
