- kne33849 years agoNew SpectatorI use that option all time, a parent can't use it because they are already caregiver but when there is multiple children in the house then they can care for each other or I have one family and they needed help with the garden and the household so I brought in a non family member and she used this option on the twins so she can help with the parenting of the twins. Teens can also adopt younger siblings or toddlers in the household so they can help too. It gives the non parent more ways to help raise the child and then they can help with teaching them parenting stuff and they can ground the children too. this option just lets non parents have more say in the kids life that live with them. And more than one sim can adopt as caregiver. And it doesn't take away from the actual parents.
- PsychoSimXX9 years agoNew SpectatorIt came up for me for Yuki when her and Candy moved in with Shinya. Then the option is there again for Shinya when Candy gave birth to Brayden. The nanny is the father to Brayden.
- JoRN14149 years agoSeasoned AceI have found that another family member young adult and above can parent the child without becoming caregiver, though.
- Duhgirl2u29 years agoSeasoned AceMy sim got this option with a neighbor kid that has two parents and lives next door. Their relationship is high. The child would come over after school to play with my sim's daughter and have after school snacks at her house and she got this option. I've never clicked it so I have no idea what it would have done had I clicked it. I'm curious if it moves the child into her home or whatever it might do.

No, won’t move them. Just makes the caregiver more involved with the child.....for example, with toddlers they’ll check up on the toddler, which family members will do automatically. Also, the child will go the parent for things....for example, a toddler will ask the caregiver for food, help with potty, baths, etc. It just makes the sim function more like a parent for the child,- EgonVM9 years agoSeasoned AceOk. Time to explain.
Young adult, adult and elder sims can adopt toddler/child/teen in the same household as care dependent and kids can make adults in the same household as their caregiver. Caregivers act like parents, but there is some additional information that you need to know.
Adopting a toddler as care dependent doesn't require any game packs and can be done by teens. While all sims can fulfill toddler's needs, parents and caregivers will make sure toddler stays happy. If Parenthood is installed, caregivers can also do Parenting actions to them.
Adopting a child or teen as care dependent will require Parenthood game pack and cannot be done by teens. Caregivers gain access to Parenting interactions, meaning only parents and caregivers can punish and encourage them, help with needs, influence/force them to do something ect.
Note. Teens cannot gain Parenting skill.
Another note. Sims outside of kid's household cannot adopt them as care dependent and vice versa.
Yet another note. If you have sim be a child's caregiver and then move them out, they'll eventually come back and stay at the house the child is living in. If you don't want this bug happen to you, remove them as care dependent/caregiver before moving them out. - Stina1701A9 years agoSeasoned Ace

Thank you for this clarification  I guess I do have a reason to get the Parent pack. This would work well with teens I plan on moving into a household I have but I don't want to have them adopted officially and put into the family tree (yes I know you can't adopt teens, except with cheats and mods, which I personally find ridiculous). I just want that particular household to do some fostering. - Duhgirl2u29 years agoSeasoned Ace@EgonVM Ok, so I'm guessing it was a bug in my game then? Because My sim got the interaction to adopt as caregiver for the neighbor boy and he certainly didn't live in my sim's house.

Must be bug. Have you tried repairing the game? - This happened to me too. Before the mother, Anabell, was pregnant, she had a best friend that she lived with, Vanessa. The Anabell and the father, Travis, split up when the toddler, Viola, was born. He left them both. I was playing and it gave Vanessa the open to be the caretaker of Viola. I clicked on it and the notification said this; “Vanessa is now the caregiver of Viola. This means she will check on the toddlers needs on a regular basis.” Hope I helped :)
